Frankfurter Kunstkabinett
Frankfurt, 1953 |
| This was already
the 3rd show that Fontaine has had at the Frankfurter Kunstkabinett, but with the added
prestige of Alexander Calder. The Frankfurter Kunstkabinett was the first gallery to open
in Frankfurt after the war. This gallery was the primary venu for Fontaine during the
entire 25 years in Europe. Hanna Bekker vom Rath, the
founder, and Virginia became good friends. They travelled around Europe together
visiting artists to collect art for Hanna's gallery and collection. |

| Outside of the fact he uses
recognizable naturalistic titles, and some shapes are reminiscent of human form, all
the works are exclusively abstract. Later in 1960's, the titles also lose imagery
and in the 1980's he begins to make up words. |
